Giving a simple idea of chord progression, many of you may have studied this in music school. but still for those who have some confusion.
First there are two type of cord progression
1) Static progression means following the rules of cord progression.
2) Dynamic progression: means musician puts chord according to his wish which may or may not be theoretically correct.
Now lets take C Major as the key. Now this C major chord have a family of (C-Dm-Em-F-G-A-B7d)
now let us play in a progression of 1-3-4 i.e C-Em-F. Now we have chosen these three member from the family of C Major chord. Again if we see E minor and F Major is having their own family . Say for example F Chord is having a family of (F-Gm-Am-A#-C-D-E-F) now here we get another extra chord A#.
So, we can use A# chord in our progression. Like this we can take notes from the family of E chord also. This is a basic conception of chord progression.
\
Now how let us discuss how we can say the Family of C major chord is C Dm Em F G Am B7d. Its very easy it is directly derived from Modes. Modes have seven scale namely-
Ionian- Major Scale
Dorian- Minor scale
Phrygian- Minor Scale
Lydian- Major Scale
